8th Annual ‘Alumni Bubbly Breakfast’

For the eighth annual ‘Alumni Bubbly Breakfast’, held on the occasion of the Frieze Art Fair, the Courtauld is delighted to announce its most ambitious programme to date.
The morning will feature two artists, Sheila Hicks and Yesenia Trobbiani, who are innovators in unique media: specifically, textiles and food.
Guests are welcome to the Courtauld Institute of Art at 10.00 am for drinks and light refreshments. At 10.30, Italian artist Yesenia Trobbiani will inaugurate Delcibo, an edible participatory performance piece. Food performs physiological and psychological functions, and Delcibo is a research piece about the social value of food: a collective and personal ritual. Monochromatic foods, mixing well-known food with unknown food, come together in an archaic ritual: sharing. If to eat is to consume, Delcibo is an exchange and an addition.
This performance will be followed at 11.30 by a conversation between the eminent American artist Sheila Hicks and the Courtauld’s own Sarah Wilson. Hicks’ work is in the collections of the V&A, the Stedelijk Museum, the Pompidou, MoMA and the Met, among others. She has exhibited internationally, including at the 2012 Sao Paulo Biennial, and was awarded the Smithsonian Archives of American Art medal in 2010. Sarah Wilson, who has written the catalogue essay for her recent show at Alison Jacques Gallery, Pêcher dans la rivière, will speak to Sheila about her life and work, beginning at Yale with Bauhaus master Josef Albers.
